Buffalo/NIagara Falls

There's good news and bad news about this post.  Let's get the bad news out of the way, since it's remarkably minor.  Of all the cords I brought along on this trip, I forgot the one that connects the camera to the computer.  So while I took a lot of really great pictures of our trip to Niagara Falls today, I don't have them to put here just yet.  Hopefully I'll pick up a new cord in Ann Arbor.

Aside from that minor inconvenience, things are going well.

Today the kids and I took a trip to Niagara Falls.  Our plan had been to do Cave of the Winds, but not Maid of the Mist, which ended up working out perfectly, since apparently Maid of the Mist was out of commission for some reason today, so no disappointment!  There was a little kvetching about the walk to the Cave of the Winds, and then the changing of shoes into throwaway sandals, and I was as brave as a claustrophobic person can be going in a teeny packed elevator down through, I was helpfully informed, 170 feet of solid rock.  But then we got to the actual walking at the edge of the falls and it was awesome.

Ignore the Anthony Edwards lookin' dude - that's me and Jax right in front of the falls.
Jax looked at me and said, "I hope it's ok I say this, 'Holy Shit.'"

We got very wet.  It was very fun.  And for now, you can imagine what that looked like.

The best I can do for now.  He's quite wet.

After that, we thought about walking over to the Canadian side of the falls, but the children were "starving" and fading fast, so we grabbed some lunch and then headed back to Buffalo.

This afternoon we went to (the?) Canalside, where the kids ate ice cream,

we tossed around a frisbee, played in a gigantic oversized sandbox

and we took in some "classic Buffalo."

Apparently this is "classic Buffalo."  SharkGirl, anyone?
It was a very nice afternoon, capped with a lovely BBQ dinner on the porch and some camp songs sung by the children.

And tomorrow morning it's up and out and off to Ann Arbor.  It's about 300 miles, mostly through Canada.  Hopefully the children will be good in the car.  Looking forward to seeing some BMC folk in MI.

Check back if you're interested in more pics from Niagara.
