Wisconsin

We departed Chicago after a lovely time, and hit the road for the Twin Cities area.  Not gonna lie, it was a long drive.

The Denny's in the Wisconsin Dells was practically an oasis.
But we pulled in to our friends' around 5 and the fun started right away.  First, we had dinner at a biker bar overlooking the Mississippi river (as one does, apparently).  I didn't get pictures, but I'm pretty sure it was the rhinestone capital of America.

That night the boys hit it off right away and started playing guitars, while the girls took the goats for a walk down to the creek (as one does, apparently).

The next day we had one adventure after another.  First, we got donuts in Red Wing, MN, and then toured the town a bit.

If they don't want you to swim in it, they shouldn't make it look so much like a pool.
Literally the world's largest boot.
After that, we climbed up Barn Bluff, which was a nice hike and afforded awesome views.

The Mississippi
As if that weren't enough, we then went swimming in the St. Croix river, before returning home for a delicious dinner of brats and corn, followed by an awesome campfire with s'mores and a performance from the boys, who had been practicing and practicing their guitars.

We had such a lovely time, and we were sent off for Sioux Falls this morning after an awesome breakfast.

Once again, I am so so so deeply grateful for the hospitality of my amazing friends, who not only put us up in their homes but showed us the best of where they live.  It's been fantastic.

And now we're in Sioux Falls, which isn't much of a stop, but PETE'S HERE, which is awesome too.  Tomorrow morning we really start the National Parks section of the trip, which will be really different, but also really fun.  Tomorrow we'll see the Badlands and then continue on to Hot Springs, SD.  Looking forward to it all.
